Jifeng Bookstore, a popular privately owned bookstore in Shanghai, will celebrate its one year anniversary of its reopening on Wednesday, which is also World Reading Day.

A flash mob of 60 volunteers from the bookstore are expected at People's Square between 12:30pm and 1pm. They will appear around the square in various poses, each reading a book.

After the surprising performance, the volunteers will give their book to passers-by to encourage others to read more frequently.

Also on Wednesday, all books will cost 50 percent more than the regular price. All proceeds will be used to fund construction of an elementary school in a mountainous Guizhou village. The extra money each buyer pays is a gift for children in the village. Buyers will receive a certificate as a fund donor and a postcard from the bookstore.

Book lovers are encouraged to leave a message about whatever is on their mind on a KT board in the middle of the bookstore on Wednesday. The board will be placed in the entertainment room as a permanent decoration.

Jifeng has been considered a cultural hot spot in town since its flagship store opened in 1997 at Shaanxi Road S. Station along Line 1.

It closed in March 2013 due to high costs and reopened on April 23 at Shanghai Library Station along Line 10.

Date: April 23

Venue: Jifeng Bookstore

Address: Shanghai Library Station of Metro Line 10
