Caballe is accused of avoiding paying slightly over 500,000 euros (690,000 U.S. dollars) of tax in 2010 after stating she was resident in the Principality of Andorra, when she was in fact living in Spain.

2010 saw the soprano perform a series of lucrative concerts in Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Russia and the Ukraine, as well as making recordings in Moscow, Geneva and Barcelona, which brought her earnings of over two million euros.

The Prosecutor in Barcelona estimated that Caballe said she was resident in Andorra for the sole purpose of "not paying to the Spanish Public Treasury."

She is also accused of billing the majority of her concerts through an Andorran registered company with the "same aim of achieving that the Treasury did not have knowledge of her income and her true residency in Spain and was unable to demand the corresponding payment."

Caballe will appear in court in early May to answer the charges.
