Born in a small village in Wenzhou, east China's Zhejiang province, Jin was raised in a fairly conservative family, where bodybuilding was probably not considered a true career course.

However, 9 years after Jin went to the U.S. in 1996, Jin was introduced to a gym by a friend and became obsessed with working out and developing her physique.

Jin continued bodybuilding for almost a decade and was finally awarded with the top position at the National Physique Committee Junior USA Championship bodybuilding contest.

Jin told a reporter from her hometown's newspaper, the Wenzhou Evening News, that she spent four months training specially for the contest, including running for 2 hours and carrying out a number of other exercises for an hour at a time on a daily basis.

Diet was a painful part of the process, according to Jin, as she was only able to eat chicken breast, fish and vegetables, as she tried to reduce her body fat in the run-up to the tournament.

Jin said in the interview that after winning the championship, she now hopes to gain a fitness coaching certificate and find a job related to fitness.
