Guangdong student wows China's interpreting contest

A Guangdong college student wowed the 3rd CTPC Cup All China Interpreting Contest (ACIC) Final by winning in both categories of the contest last weekend.

Tan Jia, from the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, won the top prize in the categories of simultaneous interpretation and consecutive interpretation.
The interpreting contest was first launched in 2010. The contest is jointly organized by the Translators Association of China, China Translation & Publishing Corporation, Global Tone Communication Technology Co., Ltd. and Beijing International Studies University.
The 2014 contest started 10 months ago and was held in hundreds of universities across 27 provinces and municipalities, attracting millions of votes, interactions and views, according to organizers. Nine hundred competitors won the preliminary contest and then entered the contest’s second round, the regional contest and the ensuing semi finals. In the end, 42 simultaneous interpreters and 25 consecutive interpreters came to the Beijing International Studies University to take part in the grand final.
"The reason why we organize the All China Interpreting Contest is to offer a professional platform for those young translation lovers and translation professionals," said Wang Gangyi, vice president of China International Publishing Group (CIPG) and secretary-general of the Translators Association of China (TAC). He handed out the awards to the winner during the award ceremony.
