Decarlowe supported himself over the years by working as a corporate trainer, yacht and aircraft broker, sports coach, design consultant, and in the past was a headmaster for a children's creativity school and even a Fortune 500 executive. Married to an Asian woman for more than 15 years, Decarlowe said he learned more from his wife and children than from any school or university.

All of Decarlowe's works are "green", as he uses common recycled items like old newspapers, chopsticks, plastic bags and bottles as well as organic paints that are chemical free. His pieces range in size from 70 by 90 centimeters up to entire wall murals of three by five meters.

Decarlowe himself does not talk much about his art or personal life and only says "I paint to send a message to make people think." Some of his works have environmental themes and others are "political protests" like his painting about political prisoners in America entitled "All Secrets Die Here." Another work features the plight of the African Elephant, entitled "The Eleventh Hour" and a humorous piece called "Abduction" relates to alien tourists to planet Earth. Decarlowe personally claims to have seen two UFOs in his life while he served in the U.S. military and stationed in the Caribbean. Decarlowe is also an author and a poet, but he refuses to talk about his writings, which are allegedly even more provocative than his art.

His unusual 3D paintings and wall art sculptures may or may not be a hit in China, but at least his first work will be sold here and a message will be left behind when he departs. Some say the message he leaves with China through "Love Or Money?" is a poignant and timely one, as China continues to grow into the world's economic engine and is poised to become the number one economy within the next five years. When asked to explain his painting to this writer, he answered my question with two of his own… "Can you explain to me the difference between greed and ambition?" As I pondered how to answer, the second question followed and left me speechless in search of an answer…"in your life which do you desire and cherish most, love or money?"
