'White Haired Witch' enchants audiences

Domestic martial arts fantasy movie "The White Haired Witch of Lunar Kingdom," starring actress Fan Bingbing, has topped the Chinese box office on its four-day opening, bringing in nearly 220 million yuan, or some 35 million U.S. dollars.

While "White Haired Witch" made a decent showing during its opening, it did not match the strong debuts of "The Continent" or "Tiny Times 3," both of which still maintained top-10 spots over the last four days.
The Fan Bingbing-led fantasy beat "The Continent" by less than one million dollars to take the top spot.
However, first-time director Han Han's road trip movie, "The Continent," continues to earn big, bringing in an 11-day take of just over half a million yuan, or more than 80 million U.S. dollars.
Romantic drama, "Girls," was in a distant third in its four-day opening. The film was expected to make waves on its opening weekend with China's Valentine's Day, the Qixi Festival, falling on last Saturday.
China's domestic titles are expected to hold the top spots at the box office unchallenged until August 14, with the mainland premiere of "How to Train Your Dragon 2."
