Taiwan-born actor Kai Ko and his friend Jaycee Chan, son of kung fu megastar Jackie Chan, were detained for drug use by Beijing police, China.org.cn learned Monday.

The Beijing police released a statement on Monday night confirming that Kai Ko, Jaycee Chan and two others were detained for smoking and trading marijuana. The police said they also confiscated more than 100 grams of marijuana from Chan's residence.

Jaycee Chan is facing criminal charges for using drugs as well as allowing others to use narcotics in his home, while Ko will face administrative detention, a lesser punishment.

The other two people detained (one is an artist's assistant and the other is a drug dealer) will face criminal charges for drug trafficking.

Taiwan producer and manager Angie Chai, speaking on behalf of Kai Ko's management agency, told the press that Ko was indeed taken into custody and will be detained for 14 days. She said she knew nothing about the details until Beijing police informed her about Ko's arrest at 6:30 p.m.

Chai said the company and Ko's family were shocked and heartbroken to hear the news, and they would apologize to the public for Ko's mistakes, illegal acts and bad influence.

Jackie Chan's management agency also issued a statement, saying that their lawyer cannot contact Jaycee Chan and apologizing to the public in Chan's stead.

An Internet user named Xu Hang first posted the breaking but unconfirmed news on his micro-blog last night, saying, "My dad questioned him (Kai Ko). Let's wait for the news."

Kai Ko, born in 1991, won the Best New Actor award at the 48th Golden Horse Awards and the 12th Chinese Film Media Awards for his starring role in his film debut, "You Are the Apple of My Eye."

Jaycee Chan, born in December 1982, is a Hong Kong actor and singer. He starred in several movies such as "The Sun Also Rises" (2007) and "Chrysanthemum to the Beast" (2012), and released his first CD album in Mandarin in Hong Kong in 2004. He is the son of Jackie Chan and his wife, Lin Feng-Jiao.

Several high-profile figures arrested during the first half of 2014 include singer Li Daimo, director Zhang Yuan, actors Zhang Mo and Roy Cheung and screen writer Ning Caishen.

On Aug. 12, Beijing police announced the detention of mainland actor Gao Hu, 40, for possession and use of marijuana and methamphetamine. He is the ninth celebrity involved with drugs to be arrested and exposed in the first half of this year.

Forty-two artist management agencies signed an anti-drug agreement with local police in Beijing on Aug. 13 to reject artists who use narcotics in the future.
