'The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies' conquers int'l box office

"The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies" is slaying the global box office.

The final title in the trilogy prequels to the "Lord of the Rings" movies took in just over 117 million U.S. dollars in its overseas debut over the weekend.

Opening in 37 markets abroad, the film also set a new December IMAX record.

"Battle of the Five Armies" hits the mainland January 23rd.

Coming in second in the global box office this weekend is director Ridley Scott's biblical epic, "Exodus: Gods and Kings."

The film earned about 43 million internationally and topped the U.S. box office this weekend.

"Exodus" stars actor Christian Bale as Moses in the Old Testament tale.

Coming third is "Mockingjay - Part 1" and in fourth is "Penguins of Madagascar," which just concluded its final frame in China.
