US actress Angelina Jolie has canceled promotional duty for her film "Unbroken" due to chicken pox.

Universal Pictures said Jolie is suffering from "a mild bout of the illness" keeping her from making public appearances in the coming days to support the film, which she directed.

"Unbroken," about former Olympian Louis Zamperini, is set to premiere in Los Angeles today.

The actress, appearing pale and drawn, also explained her plight in a YouTube post.

"I just wanted to be clear and honest about why I will be missing the Unbroken events in the next few days. I found out last night that I have chicken pox. So I will be home itching and missing everyone, I can't believe it, because this film means so much to me... But such is life. There it is."

Jolie's children and her husband, Brad Pitt, will represent her at today's premiere.

Her illness comes days after she was spoken badly of by top Hollywood executives in private emails made public by the Sony cyber attack, and her film was ignored by the Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe awards.
