The footage featured a woman resembling Yang who was apparently drunk and being sexually molested. It circulated online with titles like "Actress Yang Mi Being Drugged".

Yang appeared in the Chaoyangmen police station in downtown Beijing Thursday afternoon.

The official account of Yang's studio posted a statement on microblog Sina Weibo urging the rumormongers who uploaded and spread the video clip to delete it and make a public apology.

According to the Beijing Times, the woman filmed called for a designated driving service last year only to fall victim to an unlicensed driver. The driver, Zhou, made the video clip to blackmail her. He has been taken into custody.

This is not the first time Chinese actresses have been involved in indecent video scandals.

"Whatever occupations we have, we are entitled to the same rights, which should be lawfully protected," Yang said on her Weibo account.

"I would like to stand out today, cooperate with the police and say 'No' to the event, so that my colleagues will not be bothered by similar cases in the future," she said.

Yang, 29, is one of the popular young TV drama actresses in China at present. She also starred in movie Tiny Times.
