It's been revealed that Netflix forked out 60 million dollars for Brad Pitt's War Machine film.

The streaming site revealed on June 8 that they had picked up the adaptation of Michael Hastings' book The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America's War in Afghanistan.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, both Pitt and director David Michod wanted to make a non mainstream comedy that would appeal to audiences in the same way American Sniper did.

Netflix have recently ramped up its push into original films with a four picture deal with Adam Sandler along with the worldwide rights to Jadotville, an Irish war drama starring Jamie Dornan.

A spokesman for the streaming service told The Hollywood Reporter that both David Michod and Brad Pitt are known for the fearless and intelligence of their work which is why War Machine will be popular with Netflix audiences around the world.
