Variety later confirmed Horner's death while his assistant wrote on her Facebook that, "We have lost an amazing person with a huge heart and unbelievable talent [who] died doing what he loved."

Horner, one of Hollywood's most celebrated composers, scored more than 100 films in his career, including "Avatar," "Titanic," "Aliens," "Braveheart," "A Beautiful Mind," "The Perfect Storm," "Jumanji," "Casper," and "Apollo 13" as well as last year's Chinese blockbuster "Wolf Totem."

Horner's score for "Titanic" is the best selling orchestral film soundtrack of all time while "Titanic" and "Avatar," both directed by James Cameron, are the two highest-grossing films of all time. He shared Best Original Song with lyricist Will Jennings for Celine Dion's blockbuster single "My Heart Will Go On."

The composer had won two Academy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, three Satellite Awards, three Saturn Awards, and was nominated for three British Academy Film Awards.
