'Monster Hunt' rules China's box office

A domestic live-action imagery flick "Monster Hunt" is box office champion this week, grossing about 663 million yuan (106 million U.S. dollars) since opening on July 16.

"Jian Bing Man," a domestic comedy that tells the story of an actor's experience in the film industry, came in second, grossing 422 million yuan since opening on July 17, China Film News reported Thursday.

Third place went to animated feature "Monkey King: The Hero is Back," which reaped about 370 million yuan in the week. It is a 3D animated adaption of the classical epic "A Journey to the West." Its total box office stood at 467 million yuan on July 19, after opening on July 10.

"Forever Young," another domestic romance, came in fourth, during the week, with 113 million yuan in sales. Its total box office hit 375 million yuan since it was released on July 10.

Rounding out the top five was "Tiny Times 4," the fourth film in the "Tiny Times" franchise by writer-turned-director Guo Jingming, which revolves around the relationship between four young women. The romance reaped 110 million yuan in the week, and its total box office reached 478 million yuan since opening on July 9.
