Myanmar Ministry of Forestry and Environmental Conservation is seeking UNESCO's recognition for Khakaborazi National Park and its adjacent forests in the country' s northern Kachin state as the world heritage, sources with Forestry Department said Monday.

Established in 1996, Khakaborazi National Park is situated in Naungmung township. It covers an area of 3,810 square miles.

At present, Forestry Department of Wild Life Conservation Society (WCS) in cooperation with UNESCO are working to conduct surveys on biodiversity and educate locals to establish a sanctuary in the area.

The sanctuary is planned to include forests in Naungmung and Machanbaw townships.

Meanwhile, famous Inlay lake in Myanmar's eastern Shan State which covers an area of 489,721 hectares has been inscribed as a natural world heritage site in UNESCO'S Man and Biosphere program this year.
