The China National Peking Opera Company arrives in Liverpool on Wednesday for its debut, marking its first visit to Britain for ten years.

The company will perform two of its masterpieces in Liverpool, including "Warrior Women of Yang," a story of grief, courage, patriotism and family loyalty.

Meanwhile, "Farewell My Concubine" will make its full-length European premiere, which depicts a beautiful but heartbreaking story of political unrest, love, sacrifice and honor.

Liverpool Lord Mayor Tony Conception hosted a civic reception for the opera company at the city's 18th century town hall.

Leading members of the company, Zhu Hong and Liu Kui-kui, performed a taster in full costumes, which audiences can enjoy later this week.

Peking Opera will move to London after the performances in Liverpool on Friday and Saturday.
