The Producers Guild has predicted the winner of the best picture Oscar for the past eight years, the "The Big Short"'s chances seems to have been boosted even without wins at the Golden Globes or Critics' Choice awards.

Even so, it's still not a sure thing since "Spotlight," "The Martian," and "The Revenant" are all strong competitors.

"Inside Out" and "Amy" picked up prizes for best animated film and best documentary.

"Fargo," "Transparent," and "Game of Thrones" were among the television programs honored at the event.

During the awards show, Motion-Picture Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs and CEO Dawn Hudson addressed the criticism over the lack of diversity among this year's acting nominees.

According to Isaacs, the Academy is now making more efforts to make itself a more diverse organization.

"Well, I hope that this conversation and, certainty, the action that The Academy has taken resonates throughout the industry, and the importance of inclusion of people in the entire process of making a motion picture -- whether its in front of the camera or behind the camera, and that the conversation and that doing continue to happen even after the Oscar telecast."

The 88th Annual Academy Awards is set for Sunday, February 28th in the Hollywood section of Los Angeles.
