The cast and crew of movie "The Mermaid" have attended a news conference in Beijing to promote the comedy.

The latest trailer for the movie was also showcased at the event.

Director Stephen Chow was joined by the film's main cast Deng Chao, Show Luo, Lin Yun and Zhang Yuqi.

The Hong Kong cinema star joked about the leading man in his latest comedy:

"The role I needed is like this. This character thinks he is awesome, while everyone else doesn't think so. When I called Deng Chao and asked him if he is interested or not, he said 'Let me read the script first'. Then I thought, 'That's the person I was looking for. He really thinks he is awesome.'"

Stephen Chow is one of the most-recognized comedy actors and directors in China.

His movies, such as "King of Comedy" and "Kung Fu Hustle," are box office hits and are considered as classics.

Chow is currently working as a producer on the sequel, titled "Journey to the West: Demon Chapter."

"The Mermaid" is set to hit Chinese theaters on February 8, Chinese New Year.
