The public release date for Chinese 3D thriller "Phantom of the Theater" has finally locked on to this Friday.

Ruby Lin is the leading actress in "Phantom of the Theater", or Mo Gong Mei Ying in Chinese.

"I portray a total of three roles in this movie. The most morose of all three roles is Meng Sifan, a soulless life. She's like a puppet, long controlled by her brother-in-law, who wanted her to do something out of revenge."

Since the story was set in the 1930s Shanghai, the characters all wear traditional Chinese clothes. Simon Yam plays a warlord.

He and Tony Yeung play a father and son, as Simon Yam explains:

"My son doesn't respect me, and he doesn't take me as his dad. Instead, he competes for the things and the woman that I love."

The Phantom of the Theatre depicts a tragic love story between hot film star Meng Sifan and young director Gu Weibang, the son of the warlord.

The new 3D film also marks a third collaboration among Hong Kong veteran director Waiman Yip, play-writer Manfred Wong and Taiwan actress Ruby Lin, after 2012 domestic horror box-office champion 'Blood Stained Shoes' and the 2014 box office success "The House That Never Dies."
