Film school appoints Jia Zhangke as director

Award-winning China's mainland filmmaker Jia Zhangke was appointed the director of the Shanghai Vancouver Film School Saturday.

The school held a grand graduation ceremony Saturday. Excellent short film and animated film productions of students were displayed at the Aurora International Cinema. The first-time young film makers also walked the red carpet with their families and mentors.

Jia said that film education is his dream. The thriving film industry in China are in need of talents in many positions. He will invite a lot more film professionals from all over the world to cultivate young Chinese film artists. Jia will also give lessons to the students.

The film school offers training in movie production, visual effects, sound and 3D animation, film acting and scriptwriting.

The first batch of its graduates have been employed by major local film enterprises. They have also been involved in the production of film, TV series, online series, documentary.

Over the passing two years, the film school has also helped to create a global post-production cluster in Jing'an District.

Earlier this year, the International Film Zone around the film school has also attracted Bona Film Group to settle its Shanghai headquarter.
