Chinese pop singer Jane Zhang openly denied attacks on her fiance on Sunday after her mother expressed worries that her future son-in-law might "cheat" her daughter for personal and financial gain.

"I'm not an idiot. I have my own direction in life to follow," Zhang said in a long statement after the controversy.

The singer's mother Zhang Guiying posted a long open letter yesterday accusing Jane Zhang's fiancé Michael Feng, CEO of Show City Times, of cheating on her daughter and changing their company's shareholding structure without notifying her. She believed the man was trying to control her daughter's financial empire rather than really loving her.

Feng swiftly responded by saying he loves Jane Zhang and that all the assets will be co-owned by the couple after they marry.

Zhang said that after her mother had expressed concerns in the past, she had already started managing her own finances rather than trusting it to Feng.

The singer in the end said she hoped to handle her family affairs in private and doesn't want outsiders to discuss and intervene.

The mother's attack came just before Zhang and Feng attended a press conference to announce a concert which will be held in Chengdu on Oct. 31. Zhang cried at the press conference but didn't respond to her mother's accusation, simply saying she would bravely face the good and bad things in life.

"No matter what the problem is, I will endure and face it with infinite patience," she said at the press conference.

However, Zhang's mother didn't buy Feng and her daughter's statements. "Feng just wants to continue fooling my daughter."

Latest media reports also revealed the mother had filed a lawsuit against Show City Times and Feng on Sept. 30, accusing him of harming the interests of a shareholder. The mother said that after several shareholding shifts, her shares in the company have been reduced to zero without her knowledge.
