Mark Lee (Tianzhu), winner of the best actor award at Taiwan's Golden Bell Awards held on Oct. 8, stirred up big controversy when he expressed his disapproval of homosexuality publicly by saying that gays and lesbians will lead to the extinction of mankind.

The remark spoken backstage at the award ceremony triggered defiance among the Taiwanese celebrities.

"I don't want to speak much about the issue. Bless you, man, with such a mindset," Aaron Yan, a rising mandopop singer in Taiwan commented on Facebook. "I think the real reason behind the extinction of mankind should be their complacency and voracious desire. Everybody, am I right?"

Last year, a homosexual gathering in Taiwan gained considerable support from local celebrities, such as Elephant Dee, Matilda Tao and Yungai Hayung.

"As long as marriage can never be impeccable, you as a human being are entitled to the right to lead your intended life. Therefore, just go! Strive for the rights you deserve," Dee said to show her support for last year's rally.
