'The Devotion of Suspect X' tops Chinese box office

Domestic suspense movie "The Devotion of Suspect X" topped the Chinese box office, taking an estimated 93 million yuan (13.5 million U.S. dollars) during its debut weekend.

The film, adapted from detective fiction by the Japanese author Higashino Keigo, managed to edge out Legendary Pictures' "Kong: Skull of Island" that collected 81 million yuan during its second weekend.

According to China Film News Monday, domestic action "Extraordinary Mission" took third place, raking in 35 million yuan.

Domestic crime film "The Missing" came fourth, generating 30 million yuan.

Rounding out the top five was domestic comedy "What a Day!," which grossed 8 million yuan.
