The film is inspired by the true events of China's efforts to evacuate nationals and foreign citizens from conflict-ridden countries such as Yemen and Libya which have been applauded by the international community in recent years. Since 2008, more than 80 Chinese Navy vessels have patrolled the Gulf of Aden and waters off Somalia, ensuring the safety of more than 6,000 domestic and foreign ships.

Producers of Stephen Chow's "The Mermaid" posts a congratulatory poster online for "Wolf Warrior 2" on Monday night, showing a cartoon image of two mermaids crowning Wu Jing and saying, "'The Mermaid' congratulates 'Wolf Warrior 2' for making a new record in Chinese film history! When the nation is prosperous and the people are strong and powerful, the mermaids will also feel proud." [Photo/ China.org.cn]

Wu stressed during the Changsha meet and greet that the most satisfying part of the movie for him was when the Chinese passport appeared at the end of the movie as it reflects the whole point the film wants to make, that: "Chinese citizens don't give up when you encounter danger overseas! Please remember there's a strong motherland standing behind you."

As "Wolf Warrior 2" is still dominating the movie slots in theaters across the nation, the final results remain to be seen. For the sake of comparison, if we consider the North American domestic all time film box office chart category (without adjusting for inflation), the current US$500 million haul of "Wolf Warrior 2" could even beat "Finding Dory," "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace," "Star Wars" and "Avengers: Age of Ultron". Some optimistic Chinese film observers and box office tracking platforms have already estimated that Wu Jing's production could reach the 5 billion yuan mark (US$744 million).

Zhang Miao added that there is a high probability that the film will extend its theatrical run beyond the average one month screening time for a film. Meanwhile, absent to the gold rush, IMAX China has announced yesterday that it has rushed to make an IMAX converted version for "Wolf Warrior 2" which will debut on Aug. 18.

In addition, "Wolf Warrior 2" has also started to screen in various foreign countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom and others. According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, it has grossed US$1.1 million so far in the American market after its second weekend.
