Zhang Dongxin, another veteran event director, was the executive director for the gala. He said preparations were started at the beginning of this year, and then, after the Spring Festival, they started creative planning. By mid-June, they had almost decided how the show would be presented. In July, they began the last phase of integration and rehearsals. During the preparation, many dance and music sequences were deleted or rewritten.

Zhang said: "When making music, the choreographers would convey how they felt in terms of movement and emotion to composers. Then composers created music based on that so that the show can correctly deliver the message of the sea, the modern Chinese zeitgeist, as well as romance and relaxation of seaside life.

"This is rare, because normally musicians compose music and choreographers create dance movements based on it."

Legendary composer Guan Xia, the general music director, said the musical arrangements were very international and followed etiquette, with an elegant orchestra, piano and violin, but combined with folk instruments such as the guzheng and pedal-operated foot drums.

He also summarized the characteristics of each chapter: "If you want song and dance, you pay attention to the first chapter; if you want elegant performing arts, look at the second chapter; if you are interested in Fujian's traditional folk culture, pay attention to the third chapter; if you want to experience stage design and the overall showcasing effect, pay attention to the fourth chapter; if you want to focus on the gala's theme, see the fifth chapter."
