For Alicia Vikander, Wu represents cross-cultural cooperation in Hollywood productions. "I know he is very famous in Asia and I am also a big fan," the actress said, praising his hard work on many of the film's great action scenes. "At the same time, he is such a happy guy. He always brought smiles on his face and made us laugh."

The actress added that the relationship between Lara and Lu is her favorite part of the movie. "They do have really good chemistry and really a cool relationship. They showed the audience there doesn't have to be just a love interest between male and female characters. They can also be good partners. They grew up from two different sides of the world, but they find a connection with each other because they have similar life stories. They make a good team, and I want to see more of them in the future."

The rise of the empowered heroine

The new "Tomb Raider" film has already been well received by Chinese fans, grossing 490 million yuan (US$78 million) in China as of Monday, beating its domestic North America market haul of US$50.7 million so far. On March 8, 316 women dressed in the iconic Lara Croft costume gathered in Beijing to claims a new Guinness World Records title of the "Largest gathering of people dressed as Lara Croft."

As for playing the heroine Lara Croft, Vikander believes the role is a very meaningful one which highlights the empowerment of women. And she is not only one. After finishing filming for the movie, Vikander took time to see "Wonder Woman" and was surprised by the female action sequences. "I realized that I have never seen this before, but why haven't I?" she recalled asking herself. "I'm so happy to know that we're living in a positive time, and a very creative time where we're finally going to see a lot of these female stories come to surface."
