Editor's note: A dance drama marking the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, a concert of top Pingtan masters, as well as a gathering of hanfu clothing enthusiasts in south China. Here are three events you won't want to miss this week.
1. Dance drama "Follow the Mother River"
Original dance drama "Follow the Mother River" was selected as one of exhibition performances to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The drama tells the story of people living on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau — the source of the Yellow River — as they protect their mother river. The work demonstrates the natural beauty and charm of the river, as well as people's feelings of gratitude toward it.
Dates: May 22-23
Venue: Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center
2. "Midnight Rose" of NCPA May Festival: A concert of Pingtan masters
The Shanghai Pingtan Troupe, established in 1951, is China's first national level troupe for the Pingtan art form — which combines storytelling, music and ballads. It aims to carry forward the traditional culture and has brought the performance art overseas, while being hailed as "China's most beautiful singing style."

3. "Hanfu Carnival in South China"
Hanfu, the traditional clothing of the Han ethnic group until the end of Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), has become increasingly popular among young Chinese people in recent years. The style is known for its sweeping ropes, crossed collars and wide sleeves.
