8. What are the regulations of Chinese Customs concerning 72-hour visa-free transit visitors?

1) Transit passengers are not allowed to take any articles or objects prohibited from entry and exit by the People's Republic of China.

2) Tourists should declare all items stipulated by the No.72 Announcement issued in 2007 by the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China.

3) Tourists should comply with the provisions of the General Administration of Customs on transit passengers' baggage inspection.

Transit passengers, who leave the customs' surveillance zone within the period of transit limitation, will be treated as regular short-term entry-exit non-resident passengers. Baggage carried by transit passengers should consist of no more than necessities for traveling. Luggage for short-term multiple-entry transit passengers' personal use includes a camera, a small video camera, a hand-held camcorder and a laptop, and any articles for individual special needs approved by the customs.

Articles listed within the provisions may be temporarily released free-of-duty, and transit visitors should take the original items out of China with them when leaving the country. Items left behind in China with a worth of more than 2,000 yuan will be levied import duty by customs. Alcohol, tobacco, and another 20 typesof commodities are handled in line with other relevant regulations. Items not listed under any regulations are not allowed to enter China and will be detained by customs; such items will be returned to transit visitors when they depart from the original ports.

9. What are the inspection and quarantine regulations on 72-hour visa-free transit visitors?

Transit visitors are not allowed to bring animals, plants and their products listed in the Catalogue of Animal and Plants, and Animal and Plant Products Prohibited from being Carried or Posted, into the People's Republic of China, and should comply with the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Quarantine of Entry and Exit Animals and Plants.

10. Can I bring my pets with me into Beijing?

Transit visitors should leave their pets at the designated spots for quarantine when they enter China, and take their furry companions with them when leaving the country. Service dogs, such as guide dogs or hearing dogs, can accompany their masters into China if they possess the valid health documents or certificates and are found to meet China's quarantine requirements; they should leave China with their masters within 72 hours.
