China and the U.S. will expand pragmatic energy cooperation on smart grids, wind power and biofuel development, the director of China's National Energy Administration said Tuesday.

Liu Tienan said the two countries have also promised to share their energy regulatory experience.

China and the U.S. exchanged in-depth views on energy safety and clean energy during the third meeting of U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue from May 9 to 10, according to Shanghai Securities News.

The two sides will continue to promote energy cooperation and focus on oil security, clean energy trade and energy science and technology, Liu said.

The two countries will hold a series of energy talks and forums later this year. And the first China International Solar Decathlon will be jointly held in 2013.
