Tang Jun stepped down as the president of Shanda Entertainment, China's leading operator in the booming online games industry, in 2008. During Tang's four years at Shanda, he helped the company reestablish its dominance of the domestic online gaming industry. As Shanda entered a phase of smooth development, Tang said it was time for him to move on and signed up with Fujian-based conglomerate Xinhuadu Industrial Group as CEO and president. In 2010, Tang was widely criticized for lying about his education and professional accomplishments and buying a doctorate from a university described by the U.S. government as a degree mill.
