Zhuhai’s first undersea tunnel to be built

The Maliuzhou tunnel, which links Hengqin New Area and the Zhuhai Free Trade Zone is under safe and smooth construction. The excavation of the 1.1 kilometer-long undersea tunnel is about to start by the end of 2015. This is Zhuhai's first undersea tunnel and China's first undersea shield tunnel with a super large diameter.
After the completion of the project, it will become the new channel for Hengqin New Area to contact the outside world.
According to Hu Tianbao, the person in charge of the construction site, the outer diameter of the undersea shield tunnel is up to 14.5 meters, which is equivalent to the hole, with the height of a 5-floor building. Inside the tunnel, six lanes in both direction will be designed. The tunnel will pass below the Maliuzhou waterway and the construction will be very difficult.
