Jiao Liuyang was born in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province on August 6, 1991. She is a swimmer who specializes in the butterfly stroke.

Jiao won the silver medal in the women's 200m butterfly race during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. She also captured gold in the women's 200m butterfly during the 2012 London Olympics.

During the 2005 National Games, Jiao finished second in the women's 200m butterfly. This remarkable result launched her career as a swimming star. Jiao made her way onto the Chinese national team in November, 2005.

As a member of the PLA swim team, Jiao was elected as the country's youngest delegate to the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
