On October 27, 1966, China launched a DF-2 MRBM with a 12 kt nuclear warhead from a missile test site in Gansu province.

the spring of 1964, China’s Nuclear Weapons Research Institute drew up a detailed plan and in 1966, after two years of scientific research, scientists carried out simulations to see whether the warheads would explode in case of collision and combustion.

In early September, scientists moved to the testing ground and carried out a real test with the launch, trajectory and explosion. To ensure safety, they tested the self-destruct system once and the detonation control system twice.

October 27, the test was successfully completed in all aspects of the launch, flight, target and the height of the explosion.
