The fatal factory gas blast in south China's Guangdong Province which left five dead and three others wounded was caused by gas leakage, said local authorities on Saturday.
According to Guo Yaoxing, director of the work safety administration of Zhongshan city where the factory was located, the blast happened when gas leaked into the firebox of the spray painting equipment.
The blast happened at 5:10 p.m. Thursday in the Zhenbang Metalwork Co., Ltd in Zhongshan city, when technicians and workers were installing and testing spray painting equipment. Three people were killed on the spot while two others died in hospital.
Deputy director of the provincial work safety administration Huang Han noted that the accident exposed loopholes in the factory's management.
"They had no plan for the test and installation, no alarm or adequate protection measures," he said.
The three injured are still receiving medical treatment in hospital, among whom one was described as "out of danger."
