Eleven people were killed and 37 injured in two separate auto accidents in southwestern and central China Saturday, as road accidents increase at a time when migrant workers are heading home for the traditional Spring Festival.
A bus rolled over on an expressway near Guiyang, capital of southwest China's Guizhou Province Saturday morning, killing seven and injuring 24, local authorities said.
The bus, en route from Dongguan in south China's Guangdong Province to Anshun in Guizhou, rolled onto the median barrier of the expressway at about 9 a.m., said the Guizhou Public Security Bureau in a statement.
The wounded have been transported to nearby hospitals, according to the statement.
Separately, a bus carrying 45 migrant workers returning home ran into a truck early Saturday morning on an expressway in central China's Hubei Province, killing four and injuring 13.
The bus was heading towards Yunxi County in Hubei from Hancheng County in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, said a spokesman with the Yunxi fire brigade.
Investigations into the causes of the two accidents are underway.
