All the restaurants in China will be required to hang cartoon face images indicating their food safety grades, according to a proposal for a food safety grading system released by the State Food and Drug Administration, Beijing Times reported.

A smiling face means the restaurant’s food has a good safety rating; a plain face means it is rated just satisfactory; and a crying face means the food safety is average.

Restaurants whose grades are below average will be required to make improvements within a certain time. If they still fail to qualify for the average rating by the time limit, the restaurants’ certificates will be revoked.
