Ministry of Health on Thursday published a draft regulation on training assistant general medical practitioners in underdeveloped rural areas to solicit public opinion.

According to the draft, trainee candidates should be graduates of three-year colleges majoring in clinical medicine and health workers working in community health institutions.

The draft stipulates that the training should be carried out in national authorized bases and training courses should cover clinical medicine, basic theory, professional ethics and medical practice in local health institutions.

The training courses will take two years and eligible trainees should take comprehensive examinations, including those on basic theory, basic techniques and comprehensive abilities, which are made by health departments at the provincial level, the draft said.

Trainees who pass the provincial examinations as well as the examination for assistant professional doctors will be qualified as assistant doctors and granted a certificate by the ministry, according to the draft.

The ministry will accept public opinion via fax or email, until March 6.
