A bus driver who had driven his vehicle in the wrong lane caused a major road collision that killed 24 people in east China's Anhui Province earlier this month, local police said Wednesday.
The crash occurred when a bus collided with a truck on a two-lane highway in Xiaoxian county early in the morning of April 12. Both drivers were killed in the accident.
An investigation showed that the bus driver had driven his vehicle in the lane going in the opposite direction, resulting in the traffic accident, a spokesman with the Anhui provincial traffic police said Wednesday.
Meanwhile, investigators found that the truck was overloaded when the accident happened, which was also partly to blame for the collision, the spokesman said.
Local authorities have launched a special campaign to enhance supervision and improve road safety, he added.
