In the 1940s, mathematician Hua Luogeng completed his famous theory of "Prime Numbers." Yet the Nobel Prize at that time had not yet created its current Prize in the specific category of mathematics – which actually led to some mathematicians taking up economics in the hopes of winning a Nobel Prize. Mr. Hua also wanted to make an attempt but failed to realize his dream before passing away.
