An official in south China's Guangdong Province has been suspended from post after media reports accused him of molesting a hotel porter in Taiwan, local authorities said Thursday.

Li Pingshan, a subdistrict-level official in the Longgang District of the city of Shenzhen, was suspected of serious discipline violation and had been placed under investigation, said an official with the district government of Longgang.

Taiwan media reported that a mainland official surnamed Li orally and physically molested a male hotel porter during his stay on the island on May 19. The two reached a compromise after Li paid 180,000 Taiwan dollars (about 6,000 U.S. dollars) in compensation, the reports said.

The official microblog of the Longgang District government on Wednesday identified Li Pingshan as the man implicated in the sexual harassment scandal.

Li is being investigated for suspected discipline violation and the results will be published in a timely manner, it said on Thursday.
