China issues 4G licenses |
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued 4G licenses to three Chinese telecom operators on Dec. 4, marking the beginning of a new era in China's high-speed mobile network.
China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom received permits to offer fourth-generation (4G) mobile network services employing homegrown TD-LTE technology.
The ministry's figures showed the 4G networks were able to operate at 10 times the speed of 3G services, allowing mobile users to download a 7-megabyte music file in less than one second.
