Comprising of a lander and the moon rover Yutu, or Jade Rabbit, the Chang'e-3 lunar probe was launched on Dec. 2 and soft-landed on the Moon on Dec. 14. Yutu later separated from the lander and rolled onto the surface of the moon on Dec. 15. The moon rover and the lander took pictures of each other that night, a move that marked the complete success of the Chang'e 3 lunar probe mission.
The Chang'e 3 mission has made China the third country after the Soviet Union and the United States to soft land a spacecraft on the Moon.
