Pianist Li Yundi, baritone Liao Changyong and American based Fan Jingma are among several musicians born or raised in Sichuan who came to perform. Some came back to China just for the performance. The concert was a gesture supporting those back home and an expression of thanks for the relief effort by the entire Chinese nation.

Liao Changyong, baritone, said, "Chinese at home and abroad and peoples around the world are concerned about the devastation caused by the quake. As a Sichuan native, I will remember the kindness. And I would like to say for myself and for the people of Sichuan, thank you, to everyone. The people of my province will return to normal life as soon as possible. Each person will contribute all his enthusiasm and strength to the reconstruction work."
