College students and entertainment stars staged a music show at Happy Valley, an amusement park in Beijing, on Sunday to celebrate the opening of a music festival for university students.

Singing and dancing troupes from universities all over China will compete during the festival to qualify to perform during the upcoming Beijing Olympics, Shanghai Web site eastday.com reported.

The musical festival encourages creativity among students by promoting original music amidst flourishing Korean and Western music in China. It is also a chance for university students to express their support for the Olympics.

Stars, including songwriter Zhang Yadong, singer Huang Zheng, and singer/actress Qu Ying, attended the ceremony to support the festival, the report said.
