ART Shanghai 2008 is the sixth annual exposition of international and domestic galleries and artists, featuring modern and contemporary art, both acknowledged masters and rising stars.

Big names and as-yet-unknown talents are showcased at ShanghaiMart from today through Sunday. It's a show for everyone who loves art: experts and collectors (veteran and first-time), galleries and people who love beauty and creativity. It's for networking, business and pleasure.

The judging panel selected as exhibitors 25 art institutions from France, Germany, Italy, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Russia and the United States, as well as 70 domestic Chinese art institutions. The themes are experimentalism, modernism, futurism and traditionalism.

Core theme exhibits

The spotlight shines on eight theme exhibits. They include "Blessed Posterity - Lei Ziren Works Exhibit," which presents modern Chinese painting collectibles. Art Realm magazine organizes "08.80 Pioneers - Nominated Artists of from the 1980s" (Gen-Y artists). ART64 Gallery of Guangzhou stages "Deep Voice of Asia - Arts from China and Indonesia," by famed independent Indonesian producer Jim Supangkat. It presents works by 10 respected artists in both countries.

K Gallery of Chengdu, Sichuan Province, introduces "Spirits of Image - Works from Modern Artists" showing recent works of young Chinese artists. 99 Art Networks presents "99 Art Networks Sponsored Young Artists and 99 Art Networks Academic Nominees."

The Show Space Arts exhibits "Splash of Paints - Selected Works from Zhang Ling, Dou Jinyong, Sun Haifeng and Xie Hai," demonstrating the dynamics of modern Chinese paintings.

Remarkable lineup

Masterpieces by famed French sculptor Georges Saulterre and Russian master Andrey A. Mylnikov will again be displayed.

Shanghai Gallery of Art not only brings works from abstract artist Su Xiaobai, Ding Liren and other international artists, but also new works from Zhao Erjun, He Wenjue, Zhou Chunya, Zhao Xiaodong, Zhao Nengzhi and He Yi. Their works are frequently sold at auction.
