A folk handicrafts exhibition was held at 2008 Beijing International Media Center (BIMC) on August 2.

The exhibition attracted many visitors. Ten folk artists demonstrated their unique crafts. The folk handicraft include paper-cutting, kite making, fan painting, inner painting of snuff bottle, China knot, hairy monkey, silk figurine, diabolo, dough figurine and eggshell painting.

Silk figurine uses metal wire as its skeleton, woven cotton and silk as skin, silk as hair and cloth. Artist Du Bei makes headdress for a silk figurine.

The Beijing Olympics is not only a competition, but also a meeting for art and cultures. The exhibition materialized the idea of a humanistic Olympics to display traditional Chinese culture. It also helped foreigners understand Chinese culture and creativity represented by the superb craftsmanship.

"Normally, it costs me one month to make a silk figurine", said silk figurine artist Du Bei.

"I create their faces and their dresses are also handmade work -- they are 100 percent handcraft."

Liu Ren, a paper-cutting artist, said, "Paper-cutting carries nuance of traditional Chinese culture. I believe the Beijing Olympics offers foreigners a very good chance to enjoy Chinese folk culture," said Liu.

China folk handicrafts have been exhibited in many countries. With high evaluations, they are popular among many foreign collectors.
