The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra performs more than 140 concerts per season. 

American violin celebrity Hilary Hahn will perform with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra on October 19 at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center.

Hahn and the Vancouver Symphony will cooperate in Tchaikovsky's "Violin Concerto in D Major," Jeffrey Ryan's "The Linearity of Light," and Berlioz's "Symphonie Fantastique." The symphony's music director, Bramwell Tovey, will conduct.

Hahn, 27, is known not only for her talent but also for her good looks and style that have put her on the covers of Vogue, Elle and other top fashion magazines.

Grammy Award-winning Hahn was named America's best young classical musician by Time magazine in 2001. She appears regularly with the world's best orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic.

Hahn started playing violin at the age of four. Her performance at the age of 11 with the Baltimore Symphony launched her career with important orchestras.

In 1995 Hahn made her international debut in Germany, performing Beethoven's "Violin Concerto" with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Lorin Maazel. The concert was broadcast on radio and television throughout Europe.

In 1996 Sony Music signed Hahn to an exclusive recording contract, making her one of the youngest artists in the label's history. Her five records remained on the Billboard Top Ten for 10 weeks.

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, established in 1919, performs more than 140 concerts per season more than 240,000 people attend live performances each year.

The VSO conducted by Bramwell Tovey won the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Soloist Performance (with Orchestra), for their recording of the Korngold, Barber, and Walton violin concerti, featuring Canadian violinist James Ehnes. The recording won a 2008 Juno Award for Classical Album of the Year (large ensemble).
