Death, tragedy, scandal, wedding, divorce and charity were the motifs of the 2008 entertainment world in China and the rest of the world. As Charles Dickens once said, "It was the best of times; it was the worst of times".

10, Chinese rocker detained for gang links

In early November, news broke that Chinese rock singer Zang Tianshuo had been detained by Beijing police on suspicion of heading a criminal gang that was involved in a series of gang fights which led to one person's death five years ago in Langfang. Since the case has as complicated a plot and as many gangs involved as a Hollywood movie, Beijing police have been dealing with the case secretly. Zang will stand public trial early next year. In his most popular song "Friend", Zang once sang the line "Friend, have you ever thought about me?" - but now we all know who your friends are.
