Man Wenjun's wife, Li Li is seen on trial in Beijing Monday.

Li Li, wife of Chinese pop singer Man Wenjun, was convicted on drug charges and received a one-year sentence and a 2,000 yuan ($286 USD) penalty on Monday at the Beijing Chaoyang people's court, Sina.com reports.

Li Li's attorney stated she gave ecstasy tablets to just two people that evening. The attorney also asked for a suspended sentence because Li remained cooperative throughout the trial.

In her closing statement, Li expressed her gratitude to the public security organ for saving her before she made a greater mistake. She also expressed hope that the media would call her by her name, not just somebody's wife.

Man Wenjun shot to fame with his 1996 hit "I Understand You All the Time". On May 19th this year he and his wife, along with ten others, were detained at Beijing's popular Coco Banana club while celebrating Li's 40th birthday after police were tipped off. Nine of those detained, including the 40-year-old singer and his wife, later tested positive for drugs.
