mài kè: jīn tiān jĭ hào?
麦克: 今天几号?
Mike: What’s the date today?
   
wáng lì: jīn tiān shí qī hào.
王丽: 今天十七号。
Wang Li: Today is the seventeen.
   
mài kè: míng tiān xīng qī jĭ?
麦克: 明天星期几?
Mike: What day is tomorrow?
   
wáng lì: míng tiān xīng qī rì.
王丽: 明天星期日。
Wang Li: Tomorrow is Sunday.
   
mài kè: zuó tiān shì xīng qī sì ma?
麦克: 昨天是星期四吗?
Mike: Was yesterday Thursday?
   
wáng lì: zuó tiān bú shì xīng qī sì, shì xīng qī wŭ.
王丽: 昨天不是星期四,是星期五。
Wang Li: No, yesterday wasn’t Thursday, but Friday.
   
mài kè: nĭ shén me shí hòu qù chū chāi?
麦克: 你什么时候去出差?
Mike: When will you go on business?
   
wáng lì: liù yuè èr shí sān hào.
王丽: 六月二十三号。
Wang Li: On the twenty-three of June.
   
mài kè: nĭ zài nà lĭ dāi duō cháng shí jiān?
麦克: 你在那里呆多长时间?
Mike: How long will you stay there?
   
wáng lì: dà yuē liăng gè yuè.
王丽: 大约两个月。
Wang Li: About two months.
   
 
The longitudinal mode of Chinese thinking is usually from big to small and from general to specific. This is often shown when people talk about the earliness and lateness of time.

日期(号) rì(hào): date

明天 míng tiān: tomorrow

昨天 zuó tiān: yesterday

yuè: month

出差 chū chāi: on business

星期一 xīng qī yī: Monday

星期二 xīng qī èr: Tuesday

星期三 xīng qī sān: Wednesday

星期四 xīng qī sì: Thursday

星期五 xīng qī wŭ: Friday

星期六 xīng qī liù: Saturday

星期日 xīng qī rì: Sunday
