Shanghai Hosts First APEC Advance Group Meeting


The first advance group meeting of the 2001 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting was held in Shanghai Wednesday.

The meeting was presided over by Zhang Yesui, deputy secretary- general of the Secretariat of the APEC Preparatory Committee, and assistant foreign minister of China. Twenty other APEC members have sent representatives to the meeting.

An official of China's APEC Secretariat expounded on the issues concerning protocol, the press, security and services during the informal APEC leadership meeting, minister-level meeting and CEO summit to be held in Shanghai.

The participants also visited the Shanghai International Conference Center and the Pearl of the Orient International Press Center.

The next advance group meeting is scheduled to be held in early September, also in Shanghai.
